The Farm
Here you will find more information on our 930ha backyard and the animals it is home to.
“We farm for a lifestyle, that’s why we do it. The aim is to minimise debt and create more time for activities I enjoy.”
Glencorran farm consists of 3 blocks, totalling 930 hectares. All the blocks are within 4km of each other.
The home farm, Glencorran is the largest of the 3 blocks at 560ha. It is mainly medium to steep hill country and is used as a breeding unit, producing lambs, calves and foals. There is no reticulated water scheme so the stock have to use the natural waterways and dams on this block to source their hydration. Glencorran has been in the Gee-Taylor family for multiple generations with Heather being the third to put her mark on the land.
Pemberton is the smallest of the 3 blocks, covering 110ha. It is much easier country with mostly flat to rolling country. This block is quite productive so we try to finish lambs and look after old ewes and cows here. Horses are limited on this block as we try to save the good feed for productive lamb finishing.
Tawai was purchased in early 2023, it is directly opposite Pemberton which makes it easy to run the two using the same facilities. This was quite a run down property and this was why we decided to begin the Tawai Fencing business. Tawai is named after the geographical point "Tawai" which sits behind the main homestead. Tawai has a lot of flat/easier hill country. We have used this block to do a lot of winter cropping (kale) for dairy grazers and our home bred yearling cattle. We choose to keep most of our jumping horses at this block because it has the flat land we need for schooling along with good paddocking, (Stables up here are on the wishlist!)
Tawai Fencing
As we mentioned in the above paragraph, Tawai fencing came about after the purchase of the Tawai block in 2023. With no idea where to start with the development and the cost of fencing contractors, we knew we wanted to start getting new fencing in straight away. So Tawai Fencing was born! We currently have Mike Gee-Taylor and our senior fencer Jaakan Horne who work full time in the crew. The specialise in conventional post, wire and batten fencing however their skill set is broad and electrics, equine fencing, post and rail and repair fencing are all within their capabilities. Tawai Fencing has a tractor and post rammer but the guys are happy to post by hand using post hole borers depending on the job.
Tawai fencing covers the entire Manawatu region with competitive rates. Get in touch if you are needing any fencing work done in the near future.
